Contributing to the wiki

Access and approval

Public self-registration is currently closed. Contact the sysop through the BBS if you would like to contribute. Accounts are created manually. Comments require login and are moderated before publication.

Adding computing-history entries

  1. Choose a day. Links are already provided for dates that still need entries.
  2. Add the year, a short factual description and preferably a primary source.
  3. Add the corresponding entry in the other language. Dates and identifiers must match.

A day can contain several events. Do not copy an event to other dates to fill gaps. Announcements, first shipments and later shutdowns are distinct events.

When only the month is known

Use the separate “In this month” page, for example March. Do not guess a day or assign the event to the first of the month.

Example day entry

===== 2000 =====

%%A short description of the documented event.%%

Source: [[https://example.invalid/primary-source]]

ID: unique-event-identifier

The BBS reader fetches these pages on the first request of the day. Keep year, description, source link and unique identifier as separate fields. German entries use Quelle: and Kennung:. Changes appear on the next daily fetch or after an explicit refresh by the sysop.
